Foundation of the Society
In 1948 Dr J. M. Batista i Roca was permitted to start a Catalan option within the Cambridge Tripos and he himself taught Catalan language and literature to students of Spanish. |

Membership & Meetings
How and with what success has the Anglo-Catalan Society carried out its task? From the nucleus of ten or a dozen friends gathered round a luncheon table in the West End of London, the membership of the Society has grown to over two hundred. | |

Other Activities
The activities of the Society have never been limited exclusively to the holding of annual meetings, for another of its aims has always been to keep in close contact with all aspects of Catalan culture.

Prizes & Publications
Further evidence of the Society's wish to participate fully in the cultural life of Catalonia is the fact that until a few years ago it had always offered a prize at the Jocs Florals de la Llengua Catalana.

The Future
The work of the Anglo-Catalan Society in protecting Catalan culture in Great Britain and fostering good relations between academics of both countries for nearly forty years received public recognition in 1986 with the award of the first Ramon Llull International.
