The approximate cost of the conference is to be £65, and details of accommodation options will be posted on the ACS website. The nearest hotel to the university campus is the Lancaster House Hotel, Green Lane, Ellel, Lancaster, Lancashire LA1 4GJ. Tel: 0870 418 8150. Email: lancaster@elhmail.co.uk

Dr Kathryn Crameri has also pre-booked some student accommodation on campus for students and lectors.

Call for Papers: You are invited to offer a paper at the Lancaster conference on ANY ASPECT of Catalan culture. Please send your title and a 100-word abstract by 30th June 2006. For further information and proposals please contact the Society Secretary: Dr Helena Buffery, The Department of Hispanic Studies, The University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 2TT, United Kingdom. email: H.B.F.BUFFERY@bham.ac.uk

ACSOP : It is our pleasure to enclose the seventh Joan Gili Memorial lecture, given by Joan-Francesc Mira at the conference in Eton 2004. We are also able to provide news of the latest developments in the ACSOP series. We now have a publisher for future volumes at Fiveleaves Press. This year, two volumes will be published: Joan Fuster's Diccionari per a ociosos and a volume of Catalan plays by women. We also have an anthology of contemporary Catalan short stories in preparation, with an introduction by Montserrat Lunati. All three volumes will be published on line, too. Please do visit the publications website at www.anglo-catalan.org . You will find information on how to sponsor the site.

JOCS : After a number of requests by our members to ensure the survival and continuity of JOCS , Montserrat Roser i Puig has kindly offered to oversee the transfer of the journal to the ACS website at Kent, as well as the publication of the annual numbers for 2005 and 2006. We have decided to use some of the IRL budget for 2005 and 2006 to fund these developments, but propose to review this at the next AGM in Lancaster.

PuntCat Campaign : Many of you will already be aware of the success of the PuntCat campaign. If you wish to apply for a dotcat domain name, you should visit: http://domini.cat

Batista i Roca Project Grants : As notified at the Cambridge conference, the latest competition has finally been advertised, with a deadline of 10th March. Further details can be found under “Latest News” and “Scholarships” on the Society website: www.anglo-catalan.org .

London Catalan Centre: Many of you will have already received news of the creation of a Centre for research in Catalan Studies at Queen Mary, University of London, funded by the Institut Ramon Llull. I have attached details of activities and conferences to be held there this year.

CEO (London): Josep-Lluís Gonzàlez will give a talk on the Anglo-Catalan Society at the April meeting of the CEO, on 16 th March.

Minutes of AGM: I have attached minutes of the AGM held at Cambridge in November 2005. As we did not have time to get through the printed agenda in the correct order, I have reorganized the minutes to include business covered in the Chair's communications under separate headings.

Treasurer: Kathryn Crameri will be leaving the committee this year to take up a post at the University of Sydney. Whilst we congratulate her on her new appointment, this means that we will have to make interim arrangements to cover the post of treasurer. Richard Mansell has offered to be acting treasurer from June, and I will take charge of subscriptions and conference registration until we can hold proper elections at the next AGM.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.

Yours,

Dr Helena Buffery

Honorary Secretary of the Anglo-Catalan Society
